Disappointing visit. Had a reservation for 8:30pm. Instead they made me stand around in the middle of the place by the bar which is full of people and no room to stand until 9:15pm. Absolute joke that I saw people that arrived after getting sat down before me. Place was chaotic like a zoo. The pasta vodka wasn’t as good as before either which is disappointing. Probably would have been nice if the waiter mentioned how big the servings are instead allowing me to order 2 massive Mains which couldn’t be finished.
Famous for its Italian American cuisine, Carbone was a must try for me this trip. Finding the entrance to the building itself was rather difficult but we were swiftly welcomed in, to the dimly lit restaurant. Between the two of us, we ordered the Caesar salad, rigatoni alla vodka, lobster ravioli as well as the recommended Lemon cheesecake. The lobster ravioli was the unexpected star of the show, plenty of chunky lobster pieces coated in the cream sauce while each ravioli were filled with chunky lobster as well. I expected the ravioli to have a thin skin and a thin layer of lobster within but the almost dumpling like ravioli blew our minds. The dessert cart was fun to see and pick from, beware that each dessert portion is approx 280HKD but the portion was substantial, easily enough for 2-3 pax. I would say the service was warm and welcoming but it took some time to request for menus, and to get service especially when the service team were spread thin throughout the restaurant. Regardless, I would be more than happy to return as a casual dinner spot.
The vibe is really good for chilling out with friends in small groups; if you want to dine with 6+ people, reservations are required in advance. I recommend going with spicy rigatoni vodka. And please order some wine. They have a vault full of a fine selection which really impresses us.
The restaurant has a very classic European style and feels very intimate because the staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely amazing, and it totally exceeds expectations. I tried the tempting jumbo prawns with Aglio e Olio spaghetti, and it was absolutely delicious! The fresh prawns are cooked to perfection, making them sweet and juicy. You won't leave a single bite on your plate! With such a long list of reservations, you'll be very lucky if you finally manage to secure a table with someone special.
Exceeded my expectations in every way! Dinner at Carbone was the highlight of my trip in Hongkong. Food quality was outstanding with generous portion and I loved the ambience of the restaurant, classy but not pretentious, great music playlist too! The only disappointment was the dessert part. They brought a cake gueridon to showcase dessert without guidance on portion and price. We were a group of 4 and our server recommended 1 portion for 2 people (we could not finish our entrees which should signal that we were already quite full). We ordered 2 and it was way too much, we ended up wasting the cake which also added a significant amount to our bill. Nevertheless, we went home happy and will definitely return.
