Description
Begin by meeting your guide at Wong Shek Pier to board a boat for the Flaming Red Coast tour within the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. Disembark at Bluff Head to see the Devil's Fist, the oldest rock in Hong Kong shaped by weathering over millions of years.
Next, visit Red Rock Gate, the reddest rock region in Hong Kong, where the coastline glows red. The red conglomerate and sandstone here formed during the Cretaceous period, reflecting a semi-desert climate from 140 million years ago.
Continue to the Red Gate to explore red sedimentary rocks typical of the northeastern New Territories. These formations are part of the Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region within the geopark.
After exploring Bluff Head, take a speedboat to Red Rock Gate. Your guide will explain the geological history as you walk along the vibrant red coastline, which changes shades depending on season and weather—from fiery reds on cloudy days to pinkish hues on sunny days.
Finally, visit Port Island (Sea Danxia), where dinosaur fossils have been discovered, adding to the area's geological significance.
