Description

Hi there! I am Ashley, a writer, analog photographer, art enthusiast, hardcore lover of HK, and researcher in HK Cultural Heritage and East Asian culture. Having lived in Hong Kong for 11 years, I still remember the first time I felt deeply connected with the city was when my professor led a cultural tour in Yau Ma Tei. I hope to create that kind of unforgettable experience for you. I want to design tours for travelers who are not satisfied with just being outsiders. I want you to hear the heartbeats of this ever-busy, crowded city. I want you to touch the history of every street and historical site. Three Options: Option 1: Let's explore everything worth seeing in one district. I will recommend districts like Wan Chai, Kowloon Walled City, Outlying Island, etc. based on your interest. Option 2: Let's focus on one theme and go to at least 2 different places to understand more deeply about the theme. The themes I can provide include temples, ethnic minorities, cultural heritage, history, art, cuisines, architecture, etc. Option 3: Just give me at least one keyword about what you want to see, and leave everything to me. I will take you to the best place. Every trip is 100% personalized and here are some sample routes we can choose: A. Jordon/Yau Ma Tei District: 1) Tin Hau Temple Complex (built in the 1860s) 2) Jade Market & Temple Street (named after Tin Hau Temple) 3) Iconic Cafes & Local Food: From super stylish lgbtq+ friendly cafe to a cafe that has been in many HK movies (1950s aesthetics) B. Kowloon City District: 1) Kowloon Walled City: Known as 'The City of Darkness' and represented in pop culture i.e. film 'Bloodsport' (1988) & anime film 'Ghost in the Shell' (1995) 2) Hau Wong Temple (built in the 1730s) 3) Street food including but not limited to traditional Chinese sweet soup (dessert), Chinese herbal tea, fish balls, etc. C. Sham Shui Po District: 1) Ap liu Street Market: a great combo of flea market, food, old buildings (Tang Lau / Chinese mansions), and oddities! 2) Dragon Centre: visit one of the most local shopping malls (y2k fashion style) and see the unique indoor rollercoaster! 3) Street food including but not limited to traditional Chinese sweet soup (dessert), BBQ, Chinese herbal tea, fish balls, noodles, shrimp dumplings, dim sum, etc. D. Diamond Hill / Wong Tai Sin District: 1) Chi Lin Nunnery & Nan Lian Garden: a large Buddhist temple complex in Tang Dynasty style, with a Chinese vegetarian restaurant behind the waterfall & a teahouse by the lake 2) Wong Tai Sin: one of the most important Taoism temples in HK, if not 'the temple'. I have interviewed the head of the temple and would like to share my knowledge with you. *I am more than willing to recommend more places for you to visit during the other days of your trip. I know a lot about surrounding cities like Guangzhou as well. **I can also recommend the best food, just let me know if you need that.
