This is not a good place for an intimate dinner, as it can be a bit loud, but it is very reasonably priced for very reasonable quality sushi. They also deliver! 3766-3766.
Itamae Sushi features a sushi-go-round, a traditional open kitchen where you can watch the sushi masters at work, and quick service.
Expect to take a number and wait at this popular sushi joint, located right by the Ladies’ Market in Mongkok. It is nestled in between California Pizza Kitchen and Haagen-Dazs, above Starbucks.
A crowded yet Japanese-feeling place, Itamae boasts a great view of the street below, and of the sushi chefs at work just over the counter and sushi-go-round. Seating is at the sushi bar, and in traditional Japanese fashion, free tea is included (just refill it yourself with the hot water dispenser in front of you, be careful not to burn yourself!). The sushi-go-round is priced by the colour of the plate, depending on what type it is. These plates will be stacked and calculated at the end for the total bill, so don’t expect them to be cleared away.
They also have a la carte menu, with outrageous rolls that include ingredients such as chilled mango, tempura fried soft shell crab and lobster rolls. The salmon sashimi is worth ordering, as is the fatty tuna.
Expect to spend $80 – 150 per person, depending largely on what type of sushi you order.
