Description
Explore a different side of Hong Kong on a 3-hour walking and food experience from Central to Sheung Wan. Walk through historic streets where Chinese traditions, colonial architecture, religion, cinema, and everyday local life come together.
Meet your local guide in Central and begin with the Fringe Club, originally built in 1890 as a cold-storage warehouse for the Dairy Farm Company. Its distinctive red-and-white brick architecture is now one of Central's recognizable cultural landmarks.
Continue toward Tai Kwun, the former Central Police Station compound, and learn how law enforcement, prisons, and colonial administration shaped early Hong Kong. Walk past the Former French Mission Building, St. John's Cathedral, and the Court of Final Appeal, completed in 1912. Look up at the blindfolded Lady Justice holding scales and a sword—a powerful symbol of impartial justice.
Visit historic Duddell Street, famous for its granite steps and four surviving gas lamps, among Hong Kong's most atmospheric heritage features. The street has also appeared in several Hong Kong film and television productions.
Continue through Stone Slab Street, known for its steep stone-paved steps and nostalgic old-Hong-Kong atmosphere, before reaching Man Mo Temple.
Inside the temple, discover the worship of Man Cheong (the God of Literature) and Mo Tai (the God of War) and learn about traditional practices for seeking blessings for education, career, and success. Look for the enormous hanging incense coils. When sunlight passes through the incense smoke at the right time, it can create beautiful Tyndall-effect light beams, making this one of the most photogenic corners of the tour. Your guide will also introduce fascinating stories connected with traditional community customs and local dispute mediation during the colonial era.
Along the route, pass Masjid Ammar / historic Muslim heritage in Hong Kong and learn how the city's Muslim community contributed to Hong Kong's multicultural history.
Finally, arrive in Sheung Wan, where you can experience the everyday atmosphere of local Hong Kong life and enjoy a selection of traditional snacks.Discover the true taste of Hong Kong beyond tourist attractions. Your local guide will take you through vibrant neighborhoods and hidden food spots, allowing you to experience the city’s everyday flavors and authentic “street life” atmosphere.
