Description
Experience the heritage of Chinese tea at MingCha Tea House, established by artist-turned-entrepreneur Vivian Mak. Awarded the Hong Kong Top Brand in 2017 and recognized by FOOD & WINE Magazine as one of the world’s best tea shops, MingCha offers an expert-led workshop that emphasizes sensory appreciation of tea.
The session begins with a sensory exploration involving sight, smell, taste, touch, and sound to reveal the nuances of 4-5 selected teas, including green, scented green, red, oolong, white, and puer varieties. Participants observe dry leaves, inhale aromas before and after steeping, and taste multiple brews to understand flavor evolution over 5-6 rounds.
Tea masters guide attendees through tea history, botany, classification, and production. They explain how harvest season, climate, and processing techniques shape each tea’s flavor and character. A practical brewing segment teaches the traditional gungfu style using a gaiwan, allowing participants to brew tea for themselves and others.
The workshop also features tea paired with complementary snacks like rose honey toast, enhancing flavor complexity. Vivian Mak's innovative food pairings help participants learn how to create similar experiences at home.
