Visited Ask for Alonzo in Tai Hang for a friend’s birthday dinner and had a very enjoyable evening overall. One of the restaurant’s strengths is that it can comfortably accommodate larger groups, making it a great option for celebrations and gatherings. The atmosphere was lively and relaxed, and our group had plenty of space to enjoy the evening. We arrived during happy hour and started with drinks. The Negroni was excellent, and we followed up with a few beers later in the evening. The beer selection was a little limited, but there were enough choices for a casual night out. For dinner, I ordered the seafood risotto. I was impressed by the amount of seafood in the dish, which was generous and fresh. However, the risotto itself was a bit bland and could have used more seasoning and flavor. I also tried the tiramisu, which was decent but not particularly memorable. That said, the overall experience was very positive. The service was good, the drinks were enjoyable, and the restaurant worked well for our birthday gathering. A solid choice in Tai Hang for group dinners, drinks, and celebrations. The food may not be exceptional, but the atmosphere and overall experience make it worth a visit.
Ask For Alonzo in Tai Hang is such a hidden gem in a pretty busy neighborhood. I really liked the relaxed vibe, and the food was genuinely good without feeling too fussy. The cold cuts and cheese board was a great start, the seared tuna was fresh, and both the crab linguine and prawn risotto were comforting and full of flavor. The tiramisu was definitely the highlight for me — creamy, classic, and just really satisfying. Overall, it felt like a spot I’d happily go back to for a casual Italian meal and a nice drink.
Much better than my last visit which was during the pandemic, appreciate the servers warm and friendly hospitality though the food was just pretty average imo not bad by any means though not something I would feel compelled to return to. Despite all the cheese on the carbonara there was very little flavour cheesewise which is strange and I pretty much went to town with the salt shaker. Tables were also very cramped and placed much too close to your stranger neighbor that youre practically dining with them lmao.
I had a fantastic dinner here with their amazing three-course meal for just $298! We started with refreshing Tomato Bruschetta on sourdough and flavorful Seared Tuna with lemon dressing. For mains, the Signature Alonzo's Carbonara was rich and creamy, while the Prawn & Asparagus Risotto in lobster bisque was simply delicious. To finish, the Signature Tiramisu was light and delightful, while the Cheesecake was smooth and satisfying. Highly recommend for a casual date or gathering!
Having walked past many different AfAs I had never got a chance to try. Saw that they had a wine dinner, so I thought I'd sign up for that. The food was OK overall. Not sure if it's worth the regular prices. Ricotta Bruschetta (3.5/5) actually clean and tasty. The brushetta was far too hard that one would struggle to cut through. What a shame. Seared Tuna (4/5) nicely seasoned. Probably my fav dish of all Rigatoni Amatriciana (3.3/5) the granciale was nice and crispy but there was too little Parmesan and the tomato sauce was a touch too acidic. The pasta was undercooked and the dish was getting cold by the time it was served. Braised Beef Cheeks (3.5/5) the sauce was bland. I had expected it to be gelatinous but was left disappointed. The meat was on the lean side and unevenly cooked. One piece was fork tender but the other chewy. The polenta could do with more butter. Let's talk about service - it was lukewarm at best - no smile & rather robotic; no complaint though, but there was nothing to write home about either. However, the biggest disappointment was that I had to use the same set of cutlery for all four courses! I put the fork and knife on the plate after each course and the waitress put them right back on the side plate. Amazing! I know this is HK but please, you're a classy Italian restaurant no? I'd expect that from Pizza Hut but come on guys, you charge a lot more than them! Going through other comments, it seems that no one from the restaurant keeps an eye on this space but if you do, please do something. I want you to do well, but you should know better - these are amateurish mistakes to be making.
