Pricey but does not live up to my expectations. Appetiser esp the tuna tatare is fine, but main (beef cheek) is bland, even a bit bitter. White truffle pasta and tiramisu is fine too. I appreciate the tiramisu with its special ingredients like the caramelized top and crunchy bits inside. Although it is not bad, it definitely does not worth being so pricey.
The food was amazing but I expected the service to be better at this location and price. There was a waitress who waited our table gave us some attitude when we didn’t order what she recommended. We didn’t ask her to make recommendations, it was just her doing her job to introduce the menu and recommend daily specials. They should work harder on staff training. Apart from this little incident, we really enjoyed the food and could taste how much effort the chef had put into them. Will definitely come back for the food again, just hope won’t get judged by ordering what we want next time lol
The food here was quite decent overall, with the pumpkin raviolo standing out as a highlight. BUT, the service fell far short of expectations. Our party arrived about 10 minutes early and asked if it might be possible to be seated sooner. We were turned away by a Chinese lady rather abruptly, and when I asked when the table would be ready, the response was blunt “well your reservation is at 8, so you’ll have to wait at least 10 minutes.” A very fair policy but the delivery came across as unnecessarily curt and could have been handled way more nicely. As it was raining, we asked if we could wait inside, but were instead asked to step aside in a way that felt dismissive and rude. That said, a kind gesture from a member of the kitchen team, who offered us some ham while we waited, was genuinely appreciated and helped offset the experience slightly. The service issues continued at the table. The waitress who took our order did so without much engagement, no smile, and left without clearing the menus. Plates were also placed on the table loudly. Ended up paying >$700 per head, the service and atmosphere (its very loud) needs significant improvement to match the price point.
Italian Restaurant LucAle — First Visit Since Their Move (Still Excellent) I recently visited Italian Restaurant LucAle for my first time after they moved to a new location, and it was an instant relief to find that—despite the change of address—the experience and quality are exactly what I hoped for. From the moment I walked in, the new space looked fantastic. The design is inviting and modern, creating a comfortable atmosphere that feels right for a proper Italian meal. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the night. The food selection also impressed me. There’s a great variety, and everything we ordered felt thoughtfully chosen—showing that they’re not just offering options, but ones that stand up to real expectations. Most importantly, the move doesn’t seem to have affected anything on the menu: LucAle has clearly kept their high standards. And if I had to pick a true highlight, it would be the desserts. The MVP of the night. It was the perfect ending: delicious, satisfying, and easily the best part of the whole meal. Overall, this visit reminded me why LucAle is worth coming back to. With the great new look, strong menu, consistent quality, and a dessert that stole the show, I’ll definitely be returning soon. The food was mediocre at best, and the service was genuinely disappointing for the price we paid. I ordered the Green Tagliolini with Clams, Baby Cuttlefish & Porcini. It was bland and unremarkable, and worst of all, there were still pieces of shell in the clams. I deeply regretted choosing this dish. The oyster appetiser was also nothing special. While the beef cheek was decent and probably the only dish that saved the meal a little, the pastas were a huge letdown. What disappointed me most was the service. There was nothing premium or attentive about it despite the high price tag. The staff were not particularly professional or warm, which made the whole experience feel very average. For the amount of money we spent in Hong Kong, this was simply not worth it. You can easily find much better Italian food and service in Central for the same price or less. Overall, this restaurant left such a bad impression that I will never return, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Complete waste of money.
