Picking the venue for today’s luncheon was one big challenge. It has to satisfy 3 major criteria imposed by the group of lady attendees. Firstly, it has to be Chiu-Chow cuisine centric. Second, the luncheon menu must also include Dim-Sum options. Lastly, the location has to be on the Hong Kong island side, convenient enough and preferably close to MTR access, allowing the ladies a handy and effortless departure. The decades old ‘ Lippo Chiu Chow ‘, directly underneath the iconic Lippo Centre Towers and adjacent to the The Admiralty MTR station was a perfect fit!. The quality and price point of the food at this culinary stalwart was more than respectable and fair. Most importantly, for me, the menu included a Chiu Chow Mixed ‘ Lo-Shui ’ meat platter that featured the rare and delectable ‘ Marinated Goose Liver ‘......for an added cost! If executed properly, these morsels can be heavenly, delicately soft, velvety smooth and packed full of umami yumminess……. in my mind, can even transcend Foie Gras in taste and enjoyment!! Lippo’s rendition was near perfection! Amongst the other dishes ordered was one that sparked an initial skeptical doubt…..but ended up to be an unexpected delight! An unconventional offering of one of my favorite ‘Northern’ Dim Sum items that somehow appeared on a ‘Chiu-Chow‘ menu!...... ‘Shanghainese shredded Turnip’ Turnovers. The generous savory filling was juicy, well seasoned with added minced Chinese ham and highly flavourful. The cocoon wrapper, delicate, crispy and flaky. Well crafted and delish! Other Dim Sum dishes like the pan fried Turnip cakes with sun dried Sakura shrimp topping, Stuffed chili peppers, ‘Duo Yellow Face’ crispy fried egg noodles…..etc were equally well executed. Lastly, the full of wok-hay, stir fried Gai-Lan with diced sun-dried Tile Fish was cooked with perfect timing and reminiscent of the famed and much missed Richmond Hill ‘O Mei‘ rendition. All in all, a pleasant and charming luncheon outing, surrounded by loquacious ladies who spend more time chatting than eating!
Visited this Chinese resto in Admiralty with colleagues for lunch. . We ordered the following dishes to share: -Soyed Goose Combination (HKD308) The dish contained goose slices, pork belly, goose wings and egg, which were all well-marinated and mouthwatering. -Shredded Chicken with Jelly Fish (HKD108) The jelly fish was pleasantly chewy, and the sesame paste enhanced the taste of the shredded chicken and jelly fish. -Cucumber & Lettuce (HKD108) Soaked in vinegar and soy sauce, the cucumber and lettuce paired with jelly fish, providing an appetising sour taste. -Roasted Shredded Turnip & Ham Cake (3pcs) (HKD60) Not particularly memorable. -Seasonal Vegetables in Fish Soup (HKD168) Not particularly memorable. -Baked Egg Tart (3pcs) (HKD36) The egg custard smelled quite fragrant, and the crust was crunchy. The egg tart was slightly lukewarm though. -Steamed Shrimp Dumpling (4pcs) (HKD80) The shrimp was very fulfilling and fresh, with a thin and perfect skin. -Steamed Siu Mai with Shrimp & Dumpling (4pcs) (HKD78) The siu mai was savoury and mouthful. -Steamed Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce (HKD48) The chicken feet was soft with a subtle sweetness from the black bean sauce. -Steamed Minced Beef Ball (HKD48) They were tender and quite tasty. -Baked Barbecued Pork Bun with Pineapple (3pcs) (HKD48) Not particularly memorable. -Dumpling with Hot & Sour Sauce (6pcs) (HKD68) The dumpling was slightly spicy with tender and juicy meat. -Deep-fried Creamy Custard Bun (3pcs) (HKD48) With a crunchy exterior, the piping-hot bun had a sweet, milky and creamy custard interior. -Steamed Squid with Konjac & Satay Sauce (HKD68) The tangy squid was enjoyable with its elastic texture. -Pan-fried Turnip Cake (HKD48) Topped with sakura shrimp, the turnip cake was hotly-served and flavourful. -Fried Rice with Assorted Seafood & Cherry Shrimp (HKD238) The fried rice had great wok hei and umami with the fresh seafood. The rice was grainy and the cherry shrimp added more textures to the dish. -Fried Vermicelli in Singaporean Style (HKD168) The vermicelli smelled aromatic with the curry sauce, which added spiciness to the dish. The shrimp was meaty and the vermicelli was fried to a right heat. -Pan-fried Crispy Noodle in Chiuchow Style (HKD168) The noodle kinda look like a pancake, just that this had a crispy exterior. Each bite could savour its crunchiness. -Chilled Sago Cream with Mango, Pomelo & Coconut Milk (HKD38) The dessert contained quite a lot of sago, and was refreshing. -Green Bean with Water Chestnut & Gingko (HKD36) Not particularly memorable. . Located on the ground floor of Lippo Centre, the resto is quite spacious and gets really busy during lunchtime. Food can be preorder via WhatsApp, and the staff were nice and helpful while helping me to arrange the food order.
