The view is great, although only one place on our table could see it as the other had a view of the wall, and the food is ok this could be so much better. Given the expense of the meal and the fact we had to book and pay well in advance the unwelcoming atmosphere was disappointing. Upon arriving I asked if I could have a glass of water before we began, only to be told they did not serve water other than purchasing very expensive large bottle of mineral water. This set a general tone which did not make one feel relaxed or welcomed. Plates were cleared the moment the last mouthful had gone in and we were asked if we wanted coffee a mere 40 minutes after entering the restaurant and whilst we had still not finished our bottle of wine. This could be a lovely restaurant if they made guest feel welcomed rather than an imposition on their time who they wanted to get out of the building as soon as possible.
1. Food are tasty but not worth reflected to the price as the ingredients are not luxury and without alcohol, 2 adults 1 kid for set lunch spent around HKD2000. Required almost full pre-pay deposit. 2.services of manager VERY BAD in terms of attitude, agreed to let us stay until 3pm when we pay the deposit 1 week ago, but at the end when we arrived the venue, the male manager asked me to sit next to the kitchen door, I requested to sit further at the window seat (remarks : four tables only in the indoor dining area, two are 5 cm distance next to kitchen doors and one next to window was full of storage and another window table is empty at that moment) leave at 2pm due to private event set up crew came earlier for set up the decoration, he asked " the host will come for food at 2pm, if you want to seat at the window's, required to leave at 2pm, ok or not? in Cantonese wording of the conversation with the manager : ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Manager : 之前話三點人哋要嚟set up,不過人哋主人家兩點要嚟食嘢呀嘛,你要坐窗口位呀麻, 咁如果你兩點走O唔OK? 跟住我take voice message on phone to 老公 :老公咁我哋又要早多一個鐘頭走啦.... 經理聽到就話 : 唔係嘅你可以喺出邊間Cafe度坐吓都得嘅 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Actually no choice, either sit right next to the kitchen doors where ppl keeps go in and out or leave earlier at 2pm. As I already fully paid and drove for such long time to the venue for the birthday lunch, kid was starving at that moment as well, so we at the end stay and had lunch there as planned. But the young female waitress was very nice and polite during the whole process, she also apologies to us if any bad experience gained there. 3. environment Indoor dining area super small like 200 sq ft for 4 tables for 4 persons each, and the staff keeps walking in and out from the kitchen doors through the indoor dining area to outdoor area, pretty annoying. The table in front of us stored all the decoration stuff for the evening event, visually not comfortable when we having the meal while the related crew keeps walking back and forth to get things. Refer to the uploaded photo in attached. As the outdoor area was setting up for evening event, the screw keeps talking loud for work and we clearly hear all through the non-insulated window. Generally, NEVER return to this restaurant for sure and not recommend to our friends.
We chose this restaurant to celebrate my mum’s 70th birthday, and it turned out to be such a warm and thoughtful experience. We don’t usually go for fine dining and can find it a little intimidating, but the team made us feel completely at ease from the start. The service was exceptional and genuinely attentive — they take the initiative to adjust the menu for us at the last minute when everyone was coughing, understanding that deep-fried element of the dish might not be ideal. They also kindly accommodated an earlier dinner service so my 93-year-old grandma could eat at her usual time. A truly caring team with great food and heart. Thank you for making a special family evening even more memorable. 💛
One-thirty-one remains a beautiful destination restaurant, but the overall experience has changed since the previous era. The food is still fine – competently executed modern European dishes in a picturesque setting – but it no longer feels quite as special or polished as it did under the former chef, when the tasting menus were more distinctive and consistently memorable. Service has also changed since the manager left: while the team remains functional, the new staff lack the same warmth and familiarity, so interactions feel more transactional and less personable than before. That said, one-thirtyone is still a very pleasant place for a relaxed lunch on a clear day, with its lawn, sea views over Three Fathoms Cove, and dog‑friendly outdoor areas making it particularly enjoyable if you want to bring your dogs and spend a quiet afternoon away from the city.
